The Project

The objective of this project was to select an iconic designer and appropriate their style to reinterpret a poster. My choice naturally fell on Chip Kidd for his distinct comic book aesthetic and pop culture influences. For the source material, I selected the official poster for The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, as it is one of my absolute favorite movies. The major conceptual challenge lay in the harmonious fusion of Chip Kidd's striking and colorful approach with the intrinsically dark and textured atmosphere of the film. By meticulously studying his layout grids and his specific relationship with typography, I was able to isolate his core graphic codes to create three unique and complementary interpretations. These proposals explore different facets: a raw and expressive line work focusing on the cowl, a minimalist composition relying on high contrast and imposing typography, and a direct tribute to the classic comic book format energized by a shattered glass effect. The relevance of this visual research even earned me a feature in a specialized web article highlighting the best artistic approaches surrounding the Dark Knight.
