The Inspiration & Concept

For this project, the goal was to completely immerse the viewer into the visual universe of The Slow Rush. Inspired by Tame Impala's distinct aesthetic, I set out to recreate the highly atmospheric and surreal vibe of the iconic album cover. The original photographic reference was captured in Kolmanskop, an abandoned German diamond mining town in Namibia. This timeless and desolate location served as the perfect conceptual anchor for exploring the relentless passage of time through advanced 3D animation. It is a profound exploration of memory, decay, and the beauty of forgotten spaces.

World-Building & 3D Environment

Constructing this scene required a meticulous blending of stark natural elements and architectural decay. I mixed the vast and overwhelming emptiness of the desert with the haunting mystery of a ghost town actively being swallowed by the shifting sand. To elevate the surrealism of the composition, I incorporated that magical geographical meeting point where the arid dunes directly kiss the cold ocean. Every 3D asset, lighting choice, and environmental texture was deliberately crafted to emphasize isolation and the slow deterioration of human structures against the enduring power of nature.

Art Direction

From an art direction perspective, the lighting and atmospheric volume were absolutely critical to achieving the right emotional tone. I utilized soft and diffused digital lighting to mimic the hazy, memory-like quality of Tame Impala's sonic landscapes. This piece serves as a dedicated visual tribute to the album's core theme. Through careful motion design and advanced 3D animation techniques, the resulting visual loop creates a meditative digital space that perfectly echoes the philosophical weight and emotional resonance of the music itself. Check out this Instagram post to experience the full version with sound and enjoy the complete animation.
